Cryptotympana takasagona
This cicada can be told apart from its closest relative mainly by wing vein colour, since the two species otherwise look almost identical.

This is a large, dark bodied cicada with a hard, smooth, faintly metallic surface. The wing bases carry a patch of opaque brown, and the wing veins near that patch are green rather than the reddish brown veins of its closest relative.
Adults sing from the canopy of forest trees from lowland areas up into the mountains, and are drawn to artificial light at night. Nymphs develop underground before climbing tree trunks to emerge as adults.
