Asian blood tail

This dragonfly has grey eyes capped with brown, a copper brown thorax marked with narrow yellow stripes, and a bright crimson red abdomen with the last two segments black. Females are duller, with an olive brown abdomen marked by a pale greenish yellow mid line.

It breeds in still or slow water such as marshes, ponds and swamp forest pools, and is one of the most wide ranging dragonflies in the region, occurring from India across South and Southeast Asia to Australia.
