Privacy
Entoma has no accounts, no ads and no tracking. What you save, the journal you keep and your settings stay on your phone. Only three things ever leave it, each because you asked for it: a photo you want identified, an error report you send, and a purchase you make through Apple.
Who is responsible
Entoma is made by Pars Kunt, who is responsible for the data described here. Write to [email protected] with any question or request.
What stays on your phone
The species you save, your journal (dates, places you type, notes and any photos you add), your settings, the place you last stopped reading and how many free identifications you have used this month. None of this is sent to us. Deleting the app deletes it. A journal export is a file you share yourself.
Identifying a photo
When you ask Entoma to identify an insect, the photo is made smaller on your phone and sent to our server, which asks Kindwise insect.id (Kindwise s.r.o., Czech Republic) what it shows. We ask Kindwise to delete its copy as soon as the answer comes back, and our server does not keep the photo.
To stop a single phone from running up the cost, the request carries a random code that the app makes on first use. It is not linked to your name, your Apple account or your device's advertising identifier. The server keeps only that code, the date and a count of identifications for the day.
The camera and photo library are used only when you choose to take or pick a photo for identification or for your journal.
Reporting an error
If you report an error on a species page, we receive the species, the kind of error you chose, the note you wrote and the time. We use it only to check and correct the guide. Please do not put personal details in the note.
Purchases
Entoma Pro is bought through Apple. Apple handles payment and never shares your card details with us. We use RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc., United States) to confirm purchases and restore them on a new phone. It receives an anonymous app user code and the details of your purchase, not your name or email.
Where the data is kept
Our server runs on Supabase in Frankfurt, Germany. Like any web service it keeps short technical logs of requests, including IP addresses, for security and to fix faults; these are deleted automatically. Error reports and the daily counts are kept until they are no longer needed to maintain the guide, and counts older than 90 days are removed.
What we do not do
- No advertising, and no data sold or shared for advertising.
- No analytics or tracking tools in the app.
- No location is collected. A place in your journal is text you type, kept on your phone.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete anything we hold about you, or object to its use, by writing to [email protected]. Because we do not know who you are, tell us roughly when you sent an error report or used identification so we can find it. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
Entoma is a general audience guide and does not knowingly collect personal data from children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published here with a new date.
